Hello all and welcome to the new and improved E-Webstyle Newsletter. We’re taking a new approach to our newsletter to make it both more engaging and informative for you, our audience. Today we’re going to be going over 3 simple tips that would help add to both the appeal and effectiveness of your mobile site.
TIP 1 – Try to predict ahead of time what people will search for
Remember folks – this is search engine optimization for your mobile site. The keyword in that last sentence was mobile. As in people on little tiny devices that will 9 times out of 10 lack a regular sized keyboard for typing. People on mobile devices will often search for shortened versions of their desired target, splashing in countless known and unknown abbreviations along with misspelled versions of the word. Google will take care of the misspellings most of the time, but it’s up to you, the proprietor of the mobile site, to predict the many abbreviations that people would most likely use to search for your product with on a phone.
TIP 2 – Have a goal in mind
I know tip number 2 seems ridiculously redundant, but you would be surprised at how many people ultimately throw together bits and pieces of every single marketing thought ever conceived in their mobile sites and as a result end up with a kaleidoscope of buttons and bad ideas. A few general rules of thumb to follow when designing your mobile site (or cleaning it up for that matter) are as follows
- Keep it organized
- Keep it clean
- Sometimes, less is more.
- Don’t overwhelm the user with hundreds of links and buttons and pictures. It’s hard enough to navigate something on a tiny touchscreen.
TIP 3 – Have a push to call/click to call button
Going back to the first tip, remember that you are optimizing for amobile device. Again, to stress the same thing over and over again, the keyword here is mobile. More often than not, when people are searching for your site and happen across it, it’s going to be on their phone. What good is a phone that doesn’t call? Conversely, what good is a mobile website without an easy way to get in contact with the business on the mobile? Try to cater to the customers on this one. You just saved a potential buyer/business partner the ordeal of trying to remember a 10+ digit number. Remember – A happy customer is a good customer.
