Algorithm Building Links, Article Spinning

Chris Burres:               Hi and welcome to the SEO Podcast: Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing. My name is Chris Burres, owner of E-Webstyle.

Charles Lewis:                         And I’m Charles Lewis, your internet marketing specialist.

Chris Burres:               Thank you, guys for tuning in. This is podcast number 153. I got it just in time. [Laughter] As usual, we — we have a tip from our previous podcast which was, of course, 152. That tip is make sure your link build strategies have adjusted to recent algorithm changes.

Charles Lewis:             Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Make sure that what you’re doing to build links this time is consistent with the changes Google is making. No more link fonts, no spinning articles and nothing that kind of things of yesteryears —

Chris Burres:               Your grey hat.

Charles Lewis:             … don’t work. Yeah. Don’t do those right now. They are really low suspect and now Google has put things in place to prevent them from even working. So — so update your link, your link strategy.

Chris Burres:               If you want to find out more about that whole, that discussion that we had on that last podcast, do go back and listen to podcast number 152. Do remember that we are your friendly local neighborhood top position snatchers.

Charles Lewis:                         Yes.

Chris Burres:               Where our mantra is…

Charles Lewis:                         “Don’t be a douche.”

Chris Burres:               Let’s see what else we got. If you are in some sort of electric device, go ahead and tweet now, Facebook now, Four Square or maybe you should — you should be able to check in to our podcast, right?

[Crosstalk]

Chris Burres:               Like there should be some way to check in to our podcast. Go ahead and do that now. Hash tag —

Charles Lewis:             #SEOPodcast153. Tag us at it @ewebstyle and that way, we’ll retweet you or check it out and everything. So — so yeah, do it right now. Right now.

Chris Burres:               All right, we got some reviews, actually, right now.

Charles Lewis:                         We’ll wait.

Chris Burres:               No, we won’t. We got some reviews and I mentioned last time that we got reviews or review, a Danish review, still making me hungry. It says, “Hi, guys. Just…” And then he sent us an e-mail. “Just want to let you know that you have a five star review in the Danish iTunes from me.” I don’t know when we’ll be able to see it. The last time I checked which is a week ago, I didn’t see it. So here it is. “Well other SEO podcast might be more technical and in-depth…” Boo. “Chris and Charles make their podcast one of the most entertaining podcasts I’ve listened to. I do have a huge list of podcasts that I listened to driving the Danish roads daily but Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing is always the first thing coming out of the speakers. Punch in the face for the show in general and for your sound quality getting better and better.” And this is from magnusupdateidea.com [0:02:31] [Phonetic].

Charles Lewis:                         Magnus [0:02:34] [Phonetic] [Punching Sound].

Chris Burres:               Kind of. Yeah, it’s like a [Punching Sound].

Charles Lewis:                         You know what I’m saying? I mean – we – I’m a little suspect about. Appreciate the listening and thank you for the compliments but you know, I thought that we were pretty in-depth with —

Chris Burres:               In-depth.

Charles Lewis:                         … with the content is there, you know.

Chris Burres:               So other review certainly are pointing out that we have great content and we actually, we’re like the Red Bowl of SEO podcast. Here’s another one. So I don’t even know what to do because I don’t if I have a tear, if I chop off an arm. Here it is.

Charles Lewis:                         Two stars?

Chris Burres:               Yeah, two stars. Jim Morton [0:03:06] [Phonetic]. “Get to the point.”

Charles Lewis:                         Oh, another —

Chris Burres:               That’s —

Charles Lewis:                         Another timely enumerated?

Chris Burres:               That’s the title. “A lot of people seem to like this so maybe there are some good stuff here. But honestly — but I honestly didn’t hear it. After ten minutes of the host chatting with their guest about day’s news, I turned it off. Well, maybe that was a fluke I thought. So I listened to the second one. I lasted five minutes this time. If I’m going to devote time to a podcast, I want one that talks about the subject at hand and not the host feelings about the president, not my cup of tea.” And —

Charles Lewis:                         We talked about the president? Probably.

Chris Burres:               Yeah, I’m sure we had. But at least the president of us.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah, something. Yeah.

Chris Burres:               [Laughter] Whoever that was that day. I think was when I find really — first of, two stars like you — there was nothing — you found nothing in our podcast and still —

Charles Lewis:                         He didn’t —

Chris Burres:               … and still gave us two — two stars, like that’s a little crazy. Second, it made me think back when — back when I was in college, we had this drink and it was called an Ass Kicker and basically, it was a little tiny shot, shaped on the top and then a bigger container area and you have a shot and a chaser. So like rum and coke, right? And invariably and this is no offense to the girls, maybe it was just the girls that I was hanging out with that time, you would give them that shot. They would take the shot and stop, you know, all the chaser was at the bottom. [Laughter] So the — the process of the glass is drink the whole thing and all you can taste the chaser. And invariably they would stop —

Charles Lewis:                         At the shot.

Chris Burres:               … at the shot. He didn’t get the chaser. [Laughter] He stopped at the shot, not once —

Charles Lewis:                         You know, twice.

Chris Burres:               … but twice.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah.

Chris Burres:               Like why would you listen to ten minutes of a podcast and then switch to the next podcast, you need to listen — it’s just bizarre.

Charles Lewis:                         With all mean he said, you know, he’s looking for meat.

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         He’s not — he’s not a vegetable or side dish person.

[0:05:01]

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         He wants the entrée.

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         I like appetizers.

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         Then an entrée.

Chris Burres:               He just — he just took the shot.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah.

Chris Burres:               And quit and then complained about it. Put two stars which I don’t get. Anyway, thanks, Jim for — for giving us feedback. We’re aware of you. Infotainment [Laughter] “Informer-tainment was an occasional punch in the face.” This is from PA House Link. Thank you out there.

Charles Lewis:                         PA House Link is Bill. What’s up, Bill?

Chris Burres:               Yeah. “These guys are — are as entertaining as they are, informative. It’s like they specialized in Informer-tainment and SEO.” We have another word we got to add our —

Charles Lewis:                         Informer-tainment.

Chris Burres:               Informer-tainment.

Charles Lewis:                         Okay.

Chris Burres:               It is just like to think [Singing] “Informer, da da da da da…” I don’t know the rest of that.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah. That’s I love to —

Chris Burres:               [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:                         The rest don’t really feel in love with those.

Chris Burres:               It’s just they’re — regu-regu-regulator. Watermelon, watermelon. “I think I found them on podcast 101. Listened to a few. They had to download and then —

Charles Lewis:                         [Singing] Clumsy pam somebody say [0:06:00] [Phonetic]. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               [Laughter] [Singing] “A licky boom boom down.” [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah.

Chris Burres:               He listened to a few and then had to download and listen to all the previous episodes. Do it. It’ll help you understand all the inside references. “Now, I tune in every Friday at 9:15, No, no, wait, 9:30. Okay, 9:45. Okay, 9 or 10-ish hour to get them live.” [Laughter] He – because he used to — call us like it is.

Charles Lewis:                         Hey, this is extremely awesome and honest.

Chris Burres:               Yes. “Seriously though, they do need to be commended for giving up their time and information for free so we can help ourselves rank better. I’d say more but I don’t want to run over the Gino time limit episode 20-ish.” Good, right now we have the reference.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah.

Chris Burres:               Because I don’t have it.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah, episode in those.

Chris Burres:               And that is from Bill. Thank you, Bill. That’s a —

Charles Lewis:                         [Punching Sound]

Chris Burres:               Thank you so much, PAHouseLink.com. Go check him out. He’s always there for us and usually tuned in. So, cool. He’s probably even in right now.

Charles Lewis:                         Hello, Bill.

Chris Burres:               Now, we have —

Charles Lewis:                         The —

Chris Burres:               Dadada… our Algorithm Cataclysm. Panda 3.7. So I got this off of — I can’t remember SEO News Watch —

Charles Lewis:                         What SEO [0:07:22] [Phonetic]?

Chris Burres:               SEO, I can’t remember which one. Panda 3.7, I’ll get it right on the next one, came out June 8th. And Panda in general is whether reevaluating links and local search and Charles. since —

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, start with — what they did was they had — they didn’t make a change to Panda but what they rolled out was called a data refresh update. And so I think what they did was all of these sites and everyone who was affected by the previous Panda Updates, they kind of cleaned it up some and run it again. And that was done last week. So, if something happens, let us know.

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         Just so your site rank if you — if you increase or decrease in rankings.

Chris Burres:               I think that once again they said 1% change in searches both US and nationally.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah, I don’t —

Chris Burres:               We don’t listen to that anymore.

Charles Lewis:                         Yeah, because 1% to them is, you know —

Chris Burres:               Billions.

Charles Lewis:                         Billions.

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:                         And it seems like it’s always my clients. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:             Well, not because of ranking this time but more importantly I think about —

Chris Burres:               Available.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, well — I forgot which — which update that was the — the — when they made the changes to protect user data, keyword data. And so all of my accounts in Analytics, the most search — phrases are not provided. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Yeah.

Charles Lewis:             And so — and according to Google, that was only going to affect 3% of people and that’s clearly not the case.
