Hit by Penguin, What to do

Charles Lewis:             [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Hi. And welcome to the SEO Podcast: Unknown Secrets of Internet Marketing.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah. Sound all right.

Chris Burres:               My name is Chris Burres, owner of E-Webstyle.

Charles Lewis:             Charles Lewis, your internet marketing specialist.

Chris Burres:               As you can see by looking at your clock, we’re starting exactly on time.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, which mean, yeah well, this time.

Chris Burres:               When it starts. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             Sorry about that CCTV. I know it’s time to go to bed, just stayed up to watch and appreciate for tuning in.

Chris Burres:               Punch and kick in the chin, punch and a punch on the face to – to everyone who’s actually watching our podcast right now. As you… from our previous podcast, this is podcast number 148. We’re thinking about doing something different for 150. And we will start on time. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               The tip from the last podcast is don’t get Penguinized.

Charles Lewis:             Penguinized.

Chris Burres:               It will leave you in the cold and just that, the last part was mine. I added that.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, don’t get penguinized. Remember last we talked about the Google’s Penguin Update, the new algorithm update. They really a tech spam and things like this. So, if you had a lot of spam links coming in or you’re doing a lot of spammy stuff on your website, you can get penguinized then it was not a good look for you or your ranking. So –

Chris Burres:               You maybe left in the cold and die –

Charles Lewis:             Left in the cold.

Chris Burres:               … in the cold. There were some jokes on our Facebook page that I thought was hilarious. “What’s the best place to hide a dead body?”

Charles Lewis:             Second page. You know, Bill just posted that on Twitter. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Second page of Google because no one will find it. Since I’m actually looking at our Facebook feed, I thought I kind of bring up a couple of things here in the podcast. A Robert Mansour, he asked what the song on our podcast disc. Of course, that song isn’t on the video version of our podcast after we cut out the audio and put it on iTunes, there’s a little snippet and intro and extro of a song. The song is actually by a friend of mine, now defunct band called Circle the Cat. The song is called Goldmine, and Robert, you won’t find it anywhere. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Anywhere. I can send a note to my friend and see if he’s got any copies lying around. I’ll do that. Next Bill Hamberg actually gave a link that was also highly recommended by Charles which is a Whiteboard session with Rand —

Charles Lewis:             Rand.

Chris Burres:               … Fishkin. Negative SEO: Myths and Precautions. So go to our Facebook page, there’s a link there, go check that out.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, I watched it about probably 7:45, is that 18 minutes long? But Rand really dives in into negative SEO when some of the tactics people are using. He talks about the day of this experiment that I brought up a couple of podcast ago.

Chris Burres:               Oh yeah.

Charles Lewis:             And so, it’s pretty informative.

Chris Burres:               Cool. All right. I’ll definitely have to check that out. And also Salvador Bernal, he says “Just wanted to let you know that I love — the information is great and the — always fun. I have a question. A client wants to build a small 10 — e-commerce site. I’m planning on using WordPress. Is there an e-commerce plug-in that you would recommend?” I actually recommended two. They’re on Facebook. Shopp and Cart66 and I did mentioned the horrible experience that we have with the –

Charles Lewis:             With the e-commerce.

Chris Burres:               … e-commerce, yeah. So –

Charles Lewis:             Yeah. I recommended Shopp. Cart66 is cool. They’re both pretty good. We’ve been using Shopp for our last couple of e-commerce projects and it’s being working phenomenal.

Chris Burres:               Do not forget, we are your friendly local neighborhood, top positions, snatchers.

Charles Lewis:             Yes, we are.

Chris Burres:               Our mantra of –

Charles Lewis:             “Don’t be a douche.”

Chris Burres:               Don’t be a douche.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, it’s not a good mood.

Chris Burres:               No.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, not good mood.

Chris Burres:               Not a good. In fact that was out on identi.ca. So, it’s identi.ca.

Charles Lewis:             .ca. Yeah.

Chris Burres:               And you know, actually I’ve been banned from that site a couple of times. Where all I’m doing is saying, “Look, our podcast is available. It’s free, it’s useful information.” And I get banned then I have to like send a note saying “Look, I’m not –

Charles Lewis:             “I’m not a douche.” [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Yeah. I’m not – this is free, good – like internationally recognized, in fact the downloads for last week, 7,467 downloads.

Charles Lewis:             Wow.

Chris Burres:               In 59 countries. We’re internationally recognized. Free SEO information. I am not being a douche. Stop banning me. So then I started, then I get okay. Maybe they want me to interact a little bit more. It is a social platform so I should be –

Charles Lewis:             Social.

Chris Burres:               … so I search SEO and [Laughter] the result comes up 16 risk and limit of B200 [0:04:31] [Phonetic].

Charles Lewis:             [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               So, I can’t even search. So I have to like search SEO, many results. SEO Houston Podcast? [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             No, yeah.

Chris Burres:               There’s VA [0:04:41] [Phonetic] SEO — it’s bizarre. Anyway, I don’t know how I’ve got on that tangent. On identi.ca I do post – post our podcast and now, hopefully I won’t get banned again. Do remember and do please if you’re somewhere right now where you can, tweet or Facebook or G+ and what you should tweet is…

Charles Lewis:             #seopodcast148. Tag us on @ewebstyle that way we can punch in the face, let you know we got it and we can share it. That’s what I’m doing right now. This is the time when I say just push another program, it’s brought to you by Google Nexus, Samsung Nexus –

Chris Burres:               Not yet sponsored.

Charles Lewis:             Not yet sponsored.

Chris Burres:               Not yet a sponsor.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah. But yeah, so I just did mine, so yeah, feel free to reach me. I’ll try to make it easy. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Yeah. Just retweet and we just tweeted. Go ahead and retweet.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, retweet mine, yeah.

Chris Burres:               And if you can’t find it, just search for @ewebstyle and then you’ll find those tweets and boom, retweet.

Charles Lewis:             Or they can go to a couple other places, can’t they? [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               Oh, yeah they could. One thing they could do is they could go to facebook.com/

Charles Lewis:             ewebstyle.

Chris Burres:               Or twitter.com/

Charles Lewis:             ewebstyle.

Chris Burres:               youtube.com/

Charles Lewis:             [Singing] ewebstyle.

Chris Burres:               [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               And you can send us an e-mail at podcast@

Charles Lewis:             e-webstyle.com.

Chris Burres:               Either up going low and you even –

Charles Lewis:             Yeah. Thought I was going –

Chris Burres:               I thought you can hit another octave now. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             No, that was it.

Chris Burres:               That would require some physical adjustments.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah.

Chris Burres:               Hey, you noticed –

Charles Lewis:             I’m not capable to make.

Chris Burres:               [Laughter] Or at least, not interested in making that. [Laughter]

Charles Lewis:             Probably not interested in hearing. [Laughter]

Chris Burres:               The unique octave increase. Here we go. You notice I don’t have – sharing up –

Charles Lewis:             Yeah, yeah no testimony?

Chris Burres:               … cleaned up here. The review is “Awesome SEO podcast, love them.” This is by clearly an automotive guy, I mean, clearly an SEO auto — links down. “These guys do a great job at what they do. It’s great to find the people that are obsessed with this as much as I am. Please keep doing what you do because I listen to you guys everyday and I keep listening over and over even the same episodes over and over. Loving it.” That’s…

Charles Lewis:             Wow.

Chris Burres:               Wow. Yeah. We’ll go like rapid punch, yeah. [Laughter] You can actually die there or I wasn’t even going to try that. I don’t think I could say “Podoo” [0:07:11] [Phonetic] so quickly. Here we go, a little bit of news. Apple, Foxconn has actually, you know, those are the guys who make the iPad.

Charles Lewis:             Yeah.
